Real-Time Monitoring of Small Molecule Reactions using the X-Pulse Benchtop NMR

This application note presents the capabilities of the X-Pulse broadband benchtop NMR spectrometer in performing multinuclear FlowNMR spectroscopy. FlowNMR offers real-time, non-invasive monitoring of dynamic chemical processes, providing quantitative insights into reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and product formation. The X-Pulse, with its multinuclear capabilities and user-friendly design, allows for the observation of a diverse range of nuclei, from commonly analysed ¹H and ¹⁹F to less receptive nuclei like ³¹P, ¹³C and ²⁹Si. This versatility is useful in studying reactions across different fields such as catalysis and environmental science.

This application note also explores key technical considerations for FlowNMR setup, details the advantages of the X-Pulse system for this technique, and includes case studies highlighting its practical applications. Examples range from monitoring catalytic transformations to optimising lithium extraction from brine, demonstrating the X-Pulse’s role in enhancing chemical analysis through accurate, quantitative data. The X-Pulse offers a cost-effective alternative to high-field NMR systems, broadening access to advanced NMR capabilities in both academic and industrial contexts
